1. What is GNOPPIX exactly?
GNOPPIX is a linux live cd similar to KNOPPIX which includes a complete GNOME desktop environment.

2. What's the difference between GNOPPIX and KNOPPIX?
GNOPPIX has some similar targets: insert the cd and have a running graphical GNU/Linux system. The main difference is that we deliver only one desktop enviroment which will be GNOME.

3. Why GNOME and not KDE?
Because we think that GNOME is a good desktop environment. This is just a question of personal flavor, if you prefer KDE, feel free to take one of the other live cds out there.

4. Which version of the GNOME desktop are you going to deliver?
Our current releases are based upon GNOME 2.4.

5. Which additional features will GNOPPIX have?
To enhance the GNOME desktop to provide a complete enviroment useful for several different task, we're goint to includes lots of other software written to enhance the GNOME desktop (e.g. GNOME fifth toe)

GNOPPIX is using discover for hardware detection. Kudzu has got problems on several machines and doesn't detect some kind of hardware correctly. Discover is more reliable and platform independent (thus we're able to create a PPC version based upon our ix86 packages list, which would make synchronization between both platform versions quite easy).

6. Which debian version is GNOPPIX based upon?
GNOPPIX is based upon Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody). Woody provides a really reliable and stable system which is a good base for a live cd. We enhance woody by some unoffcial packages for the GNOME desktop and a newer XFree.

7. Where can I get GNOPPIX from?
We've got several mirrors (as providing large isos is always a question of traffic limitations). Take a look at the download section for further details.

8. Are there any official mailing lists?
Yes, take a look at the section called “Mailing Lists” for further details.

9. What are the passwords?
The passwords aren't set. You can set credativ's password by running passwd in a terminal. root's password can be changed by sudo passwd.
